Meet Robert.

ABOUT

Robert White, Jr. is a proud 5th generation Washingtonian, growing up in the Petworth neighborhood. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C. and earned degrees in Philosophy and Political Science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He completed additional studies at Oxford University in England and in The Gambia, West Africa. Robert earned his law degree from the American University Washington College of Law.

In 2008, Robert went to the United States Congress to serve as Legislative Counsel to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. He worked as a lead staff member on congressional oversight hearings focused on the District and played a key role in drafting legislation to loosen Congress’ grip over D.C. government in favor of greater autonomy and independence for DC residents.

In 2015, Robert was tapped by Attorney General Karl A. Racine to serve as the first Director of Community Outreach for the D.C. Office of the Attorney General. In this role, Robert designed and executed a blueprint for community engagement with a focus on improving services and support for the city’s most vulnerable residents.

Robert has served as an elected member of D.C. City Council for nine years after first securing the nomination of the Democratic Party. In 2016, he defeated an incumbent councilman to win an At-Large Councilmember with the highest number of votes in the history of D.C.’s elected Council. He was re-elected in 2020, and again in 2024, and has served as chair of the Council’s Committee on Housing since 2023.

Robert is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, focusing on voting rights and felony disenfranchisement.  He also teaches a basic course on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and has developed a bankruptcy lab and commercial transactions workshop.

Robert and his wife, Christy, an attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, reside in Ward 4 with their two daughters, Madison and Monroe, who both attend DC Public Schools. The family attends St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Robert has dedicated his career to fighting for justice, equity, and opportunity for all residents of Washington, D.C.
